Ladies and gentleman, prepare to celebrate that most treasured of St. Louis establishments, a brewery. The Schlafly Brewery, to be exact; the one responsible for the Winter ESB and the Dry-Hopped APA, and also the brewery responsible for the two-day Schlaffenfest, one serious beer-baron party. Friday, August 3, St. Louis favorites the Black Diamond Heavies and Jason Ringenberg (neé “and the Scorchers”) rip it up at the Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com). Then Saturday, August 4, it's air-guitar competitions and gooey butter cake-eating contests by day, and Magnolia Summer, the Monahans, and Bobby Bare, Jr. providing the rock & roll by night. The $10 cover for the evening entertainment heads directly to the coffers of local treasured radio station, KDHX (88.1-FM). Friday's festivities begin at 8 p.m., while Saturday starts at noon. Oh, by the way, it's German-style food and beer (Schwarzbier and Helles, specifically) all weekend long in the dining room. Nothing washes down gooey butter cake better than a Helles.
