Tree-mendous Fun

By Alison Sieloff

Published on November 14, 2007

Here’s the thing: No amount of complaining or gnashing of teeth will prevent the holidays from coming earlier and earlier each year. Soon, Christmas in July won’t just be a funny name for a sale. So deal. And join in the fun as early as possible. The Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree, happening at 6 p.m. this evening in downtown Alton (Piasa Street and Broadway, Alton, Illinois), is a good place to start. Here, you’ll find Santa, who is taking a break from his obsessive list-checking to pose for some pics with the kiddies (and adults, too, we suppose). And you know wherever Señor Claus is, cookies are nearby — the sweet treats are like his fuel. Fortunately, the Alton folks have enough goodies for everyone, plus a little hot chocolate to wash it all down. You’ll also have a chance to catch some live music and trek around the square in a trolley — it’ll all be very quaint and sweet and festive! For more information about the tree-lighting ceremonies, call 618-463-1016. And don’t forget to carol all the way home — ’tis the season!
