Saturday Looks Good to Me

Songwriter and guitarist Fred Thomas leads the rotating cast of Saturday Looks Good to Me, a band that supplements its low-key indie rock with touches of genteel Motown soul and a thrift-store facsimile of '60s-girl-group elegance. 2004's Every Night saw several female guests play round-robin with the lead vocals, and while this showcased Thomas' talent in writing for varying genres and voices, it detracted from the album's unity. On the new Fill Up the Room (the band's first release on bedroom-pop powerhouse K Records), Thomas takes the lead on all but one of the tracks — which helps SLGTM feel more like a group and less like one of those loathsome "recording projects."
