Shine On

Whenever the words "free" and "stars" are paired together, it's time to pay attention. However on Friday, April 11, at the Saint Louis Science Center's James S. McDonnell Planetarium (Clayton and Faulkner drives), "stars" do not refer to Britney, Barack or Ben but rather to Polaris, Mizar, Mintaka and other heavenly dwellers. Get more familiar with these kinds of stars (they've been around a lot longer, after all) for free when the live star show, "The Sky Tonight," begins at 7 p.m. inside the Planetarium. Then move outside from dusk to 9 p.m. (weather permitting) to the archery range west of the Planetarium to take a look at the real players in the sky through several telescopes. Members from the St. Louis Astronomical Society (www.slasonline.org) will be on hand to answer questions about their 'scopes and what you're seeing.
