Is it possible to feel stressed out when a vibraphone is being played nearby? Unlikely — the warm, reverberating tones emanating from those rectangular aluminum bars never fail to cast a cool, calm spell. Local vibesman Jeff Lash is a master of the mallets, knowing when to break out a serpentine solo and when to let the notes hover in the ether for maximum effect. A graduate of the genre-blending Hot House Sessions collective, Lash mixes jazz standards, original compositions, and reworkings of rock & roll tunes by the likes of Skid Row and Carole King into his sets.
