Live in the Past

Even without modern "conveniences" such as laptops (now, we can work around the clock!), cell phones (anyone can reach us anywhere — anytime!) and ATM cards (overspending has never been easier!), the past wasn't so bad. Back then, people took pleasure in the simple things, like postcards, doorknobs, books and beer. To return us to these good ol' days, the Cherokee-Lemp History Fair showcases the aforementioned treasures — antiquities including doorknobs and postcards are displayed, new and used books are sold, and the Lemp Brewery is celebrated — and features other cool stuff like old-time cars, a scavenger hunt, concerts and free tours of the historic Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion (3352 DeMenil Place; 314-771-5828). The fair happens along DeMenil Place and Cherokee Street (the 1800 block to the 2300 block) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday (May 17 and 18).
