The Chain of Rocks rolls on

The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge just got another year older, but the former Route 66 Mississippi River bridge still rocks — and rolls, if you're on your bike. Trailnet helped restore the historic 79-year-old bridge, making it into a bike and pedestrian trail, and the group hosts a Bridge Birthday Bash today, complete with a free hike and a bike ride ($3 to $12). Registration is from 7:30 to 8 a.m. for walkers and 8:30 to 10 a.m. for cyclists; the bash coasts to a finish from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with blues music, cake and ice cream (it is a birthday party), and Schlafly beer (beginning at noon). The bridge is located at 10950 Riverview Drive in north county. Call Trailnet at 314-416-9930 or visit www.trailnet.org for more information.
