If hot temperatures have you envisioning nearby oases and conversing with inanimate objects, take a day off with the kids to attend a zany, one-of-a-kind marionette show at Kramer's Marionnette Theater (4143 Laclede Avenue; www.kramersmarionnettes.com). More than just talking heads, the original puppets here are the brainchildren of Bob Kramer, who's been perfecting his art for more than 45 years. Be enchanted as clowns, jugglers, a ballerina and the ringmaster come to life, thanks to the wondrous magic of string, in Summer Follies 2008. Before each performance, catch a step-by-step presentation showing you how each charming character is created (it's an estimated 1,500 hours of work per puppet!). Shows and demonstrations are by reservation only (call 314-531-3313), and tickets cost $10 for children and $12 for adults. Summer Follies 2008 is staged at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday through Sunday, August 31.
