Crêpes are comfort food that's undeniably French -- i.e., rich, delicious and vaguely cosmopolitan. Nestled in the downtown Clayton business district (and somewhat recently expanded to meet overwhelming demand for these French culinary luxuries), City Coffeehouse offers a wide variety of the ultrathin pancakes. Try the Shaw Park, stuffed with turkey, spinach, Havarti and roasted red peppers, or the Mont Blanc, a mix of creamed spinach, fresh tomatoes, cheddar and hollandaise sauce -- magnifique! There are more than a dozen lunch/brunch crêpes -- the place closes at 4 p.m. (3 p.m. on the weekend) -- priced from $4.50 to $7.55. And that's not counting an array of dessert crêpes packed with chocolate and sugar. You may be in for a bit of a wait during weekday lunch hours, but coffeehouse time is easily spent: Sit on the patio and conjure a vision of a bistro on the Rhône -- or better still, pretend you're in Clayton eating the city's best crêpes.
