Guido's Pizza & Tapas Critics' Pick

5046 Shaw Ave.
St. Louis, MO 63110

Website
The Carretero family brings a little bit of Spain to the heart of St. Louis Italian country. Have a glass of sangría and feast on a big plate of paella, or nosh on several of the excellent, authentic hot and cold tapas: a platter of Serrano ham, chorizo and manchego cheese; croquetas; tender albóndigas (meatballs) in a buttery, garlicky white-wine broth; calamari; mussels; and many more. Those wanting a more traditional Hill experience will find satisfying, affordable pasta dishes and one of the better versions of St. Louis-style pizza (Provel optional). A great value, and a terrific place for families: Everyone will find something they like — and maybe something to try for the first time.

The food is superb, cooked to order,(it is in no way"fast food".It is original, prepared and served to demanding standards, with pride and love of good food,by congenial waitpersons who do their very best in a very busy restaurant.

  • Overall:
The Hill has many good restaurants and Guido's is no exception. The Spanish dishes are very authentic. I highly recommend the Paella for dinner with the albóndigas as an appetizer. I have been there several times and the food is always great, the staff are friendly and quick to help you. Guido's is a busy restaurant, but each customer is treated special. My highest reccomendations for Guido's.

  • Very poor experience. The owner's wife and waitor got in an argument over if the order was correct. A group of 5, we waited 55 minutes for pizza & pasta in a half-empty restaurant. The food was average --it would be available at any restaurant on the Hill. The pasta orders were wrong which were never corrected. The owner made a comment which shocked us. He was unconcerned about our experience citing that he didn't care because we did not buy any wine/bar drinks, citing our bill wasn't that expensive anyway. There are too may other good choices. We love & live in the City, but won't be back to Guidos!

Some people just "don't get it" There are restaurants where everything is samo samo and there are dining experiences. Try the GUIDO EXPERIENCE for a truly unique and delicious repast and savor the family atmosphere which includes occasional arguments about service, timing or some other vital ingredient to customer satisfaction. You don't find this in chain restaurants, fast food,or unsucessful places.
