A Howling Good Time

Polo to you might just be a fragrance for 1990s-era teenage boys or a type of shirt that is both cotton-casual and collared-fancy, but believe it or not, polo also is a sport. One that is still played today -- on horses, no less -- and one that you can witness upclose and in person for the benefit of wolves when the St. Louis Polo Club hosts a charity polo match for the Endangered Wolf Center (www.endangeredwolfcenter.org). This nonprofit, founded by Marlin and Carol Perkins more than 40 years ago, tirelessly helps protect our country's splendid canids, and it needs our help to continue its important work. To support the cause, head out to the Blue Heron Farms Polo Club (4020 Benne Road, Defiance), where you'll be able to pop into a photo booth, jump around in a bounce house (if you are a child), place bids in the silent auction (if you are an adult) and enjoy eats and drinks, all in addition to catching a polo match. The festivities run from 3 to 6 p.m., and the match begins at 4 p.m. Admission costs $25 per car, and snacks and beverages cost extra.
