The Fairest of Them All

In 1904, St. Louis commemorated the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase by hosting a World's Fair for the ages on a massive 1200-acre site that would see 12 million visitors between April 30 and December 1. Technisonic Studios' award winning documentary World's Greatest Fair takes an in-depth look at the marvels that were displayed: the world's largest Ferris Wheel, the scientific breakthroughs and the curious phenomenon that saw entire villages transplanted from their native lands to Forest Park. It also relates numerous detailed, intimate stories about the challenges involved in hosting such a massive undertaking with interviews and commentary from local favorites like Stan Musial, Joe Buck, Ozzie Smith and Mayor Francis Slay. World's Greatest Fair is screened tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org). Admission is free.
