Black Diamond Heavies, Bob Reuter, Rum Drum Ramblers Kicking Off Memorial Day Right With a BYOB Show

Leave it to the south-side to help the Lou kick off its Memorial Day weekend right. On Friday night, May 28, Black Diamond Heavies is doing a show at Tom Huck's Evil Prints Studio (814 Vandeventer). Just $7 nets you a set from BDH, performances by Rum Drum Ramblers and Bob Reuter's Alley Ghost and (so they promise) go-go dancers! It's BYOB, and the festivities start at 9 p.m. On the fence about going? Roy Kasten will convince you otherwise:

Keyboardist John Wesley Myers takes over lead vocals with vengeance in his spit and blood in his eye, shredding his pharynx membranes like Tom Waits gargling Dickel and gasoline. Drummer Van Campbell rides the rhythms -- whether gospel marches or psych-rock spaz-outs -- like the funkiest punk to replace a snare every other week. What are its songs about? Who could say or care? The Black Diamond Heavies' sound obliterates all comprehension, not to mention every pre-amp in the grimy, smoky, greasy Chattanooga basement the duo calls home.
