Iron Barley: The Newest Music Venue in St. Louis

A to Z has always loved Iron Barley (5510 Virginia) because of its tasty food -- specifically the Peanut Butter Blaster pie and Fried Egg breakfast sandwich. Mmm.

But the venerable restaurant is planning to branch out and book bands on the weekends. Kip Loui writes in with a report:

Just wanted to formally announce that Iron Barley, everyone's favorite gourmet comfort food establishment, is now booking bands on the weekends starting this Friday, July 20. Bands will perform 8 to 10 p.m. out back under a tent. (Early hours because we don't want the neighbors to complain!) Once it gets cold, the music will move inside down in the basement where a new basement bar is being installed. I.B. has a great vibe and a lot of potential, and I know bands will enjoy playing there. I can see it quickly becoming a new hot spot for da music scene, filling a certain niche.

So far, the following acts have been booked:

July 20: Diesel Island
Aug. 3: Rough Shop
Aug. 10: Salt of the Earth
Aug. 18: (Tomato Fest!)--Scott Kay & The Continentals
Aug. 25: TBA
Aug. 31: Cumberland Gap
Sept. 1: The Linemen

While rootsy acts seem to fit the atmosphere of the establishment, the music booking will be fairly eclectic. Any acts interested in playing this new hepster's hangout of choice can contact Kip Loui at [email protected] for more info.
