Mike Watt made a name as one-third of the Minutemen then went on to fIREHOSE and more recently joined the reconvened Stooges. Watt's 1995 solo extravaganza, ball-hog or tugboat?, featured guest appearances by members of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Beastie Boys, Black Flag, Soul Asylum, the Lemonheads and dozens of others. In 2000, an infection, debilitating surgery and a long recovery derailed his career as bandleader and sideman. Watt has since rebounded with a series of rock operas that play like a hopped-up, mumbling John Entwistle mashing a Hammond B3 organ. The new album, hyphenated-man, finds the bassist jamming econo once again, cramming 30 songs into a freeform arc about his fractured self-image. He'll perform the album in its entirety, followed by songs from his whole career.
