Twelve years and five albums into its career, Bloomington, Indiana's Murder by Death has established a reputation as a must-see live act. Led by singer/guitarist Adam Turla's haunting baritone howl, each show represents a whiskey-induced journey through dark, seedy parlors of the South and the vast plains of a post-apocalyptic head trip. This imagery has always been reflected in its music, but the concepts have taken on more life with each album. Next month the band will release its latest effort, Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, which will be the first album with the newly added multi-instrumentalist Scott Brackett (ex-Okkervil River). Expect the same signature blend of Americana goth-drama, but with more texture behind it.
Kickstart My Art: MBD recently capped off a highly successful Kickstarter campaign in which it managed to raise more than $180,000 to release Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon on vinyl.
