St. Louis Shootings: Brian Jermon, Franchelle Harris Dead, At Least Eight Others Injured

Aug 12, 2013 at 7:00 am

Two people were killed and at least eight more were injured in shootings over the weekend in the city of St. Louis.

Police say that Brian Jermon, 27, and Franchelle Harris, 26, were killed in a Friday night shooting that left two others injured. Over the weekend, there were several additional incidents of gun violence, injuring six more.

In the double-homicide, police say Jermon answered a knock at the door on the 4200 block of East Kossuth Avenue in north St. Louis at around 8:45 p.m. -- and a male suspect immediately began firing shots.

Police say he fled the scene in an unknown direction and officials do not have any further information on his identity at this time.

Jermon was shot in the neck and pronounced dead at the hospital; Harris was shot in the back and also pronounced dead at the hospital. A 22-year-old female was shot in the buttocks and is expected to survive. A 29-year-old was shot in the leg, which was also a non-threatening life injury. Two others victims just missed the gunfire, police say.

Jermon and Harris are the 65th and 66th homicide victims in the city in 2013.

A 23-year old male was shot in the back in a separate shooting on the 5500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in north St. Louis that same evening and reportedly refused treatment.

Also on Friday, an officer responded to a disturbance at the 3900 block of Louisiana Avenue in the Dutchtown South neighborhood of south city and allegedly witnessed a 23-year-old suspect firing at a group of people, shooting a 26-year-old man in the abdomen and chest. While running from the scene, police say the suspect encountered the officer -- a 43-year-old male -- and pointed his gun at him. The officer fired shots at the suspect, who dropped his gun as he ran from the scene, police say. Soon after, he was apprehended and arrested. Police have not yet identified the shooter, who was not injured. The cop also left the scene uninjured.

Then on Saturday, there were four more shooting incidents in the city, including one on the 3900 block of Louisiana Avenue -- the same street where the police officer ended up firing shots the day prior.

At least four were injured in this second wave of shootings, cops say. Full details are below. Additionally, there were two non-fatal stabbing incidents over the weekend.
