For an amazing Reuben or top-notch smoked lox on a New York-style bagel, there's really only one place within St. Louis city limits to visit:
Deli Divine (5501 Delmar Boulevard, 314-987-3354). Such scarcity would be almost criminal if it wasn't for the fact that Ben Poremba's latest offering is really, really good.
Whether you're digging into a classic Jewish-American deli sandwich, biting into a chocolate babka slice or sipping on some matzo-ball soup, you'll be happy and comforted by Deli Divine's offerings. That's due to Poremba's almost obsessive attention to making the new spot feel like it's been an essential part of the fabric of St. Louis' food scene for years, with tchotchkes everywhere, counters overflowing with goodies and a market section stuffed with things you'll want to take home and maybe even break into on your drive back.
RFT Dining Critic Cheryl Baehr noted in her review that some of the things on display are so nostalgic that "they bring a tear to the eye." For more on that and for what she noshed on during her visit, read her review:
