Dreamy Photos of the Sunflowers at Columbia Bottom

Everyone loves sunflower season at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, especially our photography fellow Braden McMakin. He goes every year with friends to take photos for good reason. The area is beautiful, packed with the cheery yellow flowers that famously always face the sun as they're growing.

"It's one of my favorite things about summer," McMakin says.

The Columbia Bottom is actually a floodplain near the Confluence where the Mississippi and Missouri rivers meet, according to the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area website. The sunflowers bloom every summer around July until mid-August.

The dreamy landscape is the perfect backdrop for artistic photos.
