Fire broke out in a home in Florissant earlier today — and it claimed the life of the family's dog.
The Florissant Valley Fire Protection District received a call on Friday, January 26, at 12:53 p.m. and was on the scene at the 600 block of Harrison Street in just four minutes, says EMS Chief Mark Flauter. Five fire trucks and two ambulances responded as firefighters battled the single alarm blaze.
Flauter says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have started in the garage based on what firefighters witnessed upon arrival. No humans were home at the time, and no injuries were reported.
A homeowner did arrive after the fire was extinguished, Flauter reports, and one of the EMS crews was able to attend to them after the lost of their pet: "The homeowner was understandably distressed."
