St. Louis' appetite for great live music is never ending — just take a look at the festivities at this weekend's inaugural Evolution Festival in Forest Park for proof.
The music fest — headlined by national acts Brandi Carlile, the Black Keys, Ice Cube and the Sugarhill gang as well local favorites such as Yard Eagle — brought music fans out, even despite a rain delay on Saturday that set the start time back to 3 p.m. With the rain came a reprieve from the 100-plus heat index that had blasted the region for days. As a result, revelers filled Langenberg Field and the Boathouse grounds, grooving to the tunes and enjoying the fest's other draws: bourbon and barbecue, with offerings from local names such as Switchgrass Spirits, Sugarfire and more.
Organizers Steve Schankman and Joe Litvag proclaimed the first year a success, saying about 25,000 people were in attendance. "We’ve only just begun," Schankman said in a statement. "There will be even more to look forward to when Evolution Festival returns in 2024!”
RFT photographer Max Bouvatte was on the scene to capture the highlights.
